The London Waldorf Seminar was established at Rudolf Steiner House in London in September 1983 by Dr Brien Masters, who had been training smaller groups of student teachers at Michael Hall School in Sussex. Dr Masters was director of the London Waldorf Teacher Training Seminar until his retirement in 2010. Directorship of the Seminar then passed jointly to Josie Alwyn and Amanda Bell.
The Seminar has a body of regular tutors and also calls on practising, experienced teachers to bring a fresh taste of what they are doing in their classrooms. This combination of familiar and new faces means that students are able to build up relationships with tutors they meet regularly while, at the same time, getting a glimpse into many of the different ways in which the Steiner Waldorf curriculum has been interpreted.
The Evolution of Consciousness through LiteratureJosie Alwyn Josie Alwyn earned her Masters degree in English Renaissance Literature and Drama from the University of Sussex. She has been teaching since 1975, has taught all ages from Kindergarten to A level students, and has considerable experience in teacher training. A graduate of the London Waldorf Seminar, she is also a trustee of the London Waldorf Trust.
Child Development, Goethean Observation and Curriculum practice Amanda BellAmanda Bell is a graduate of Middlesex University and of the London Waldorf Seminar and has been teaching in Steiner Waldorf schools since 1996. She is a co-founder of The St Michael Steiner School in Hounslow, London, where she works as a Class Teacher and High School History and Art teacher. She has been involved in teacher training since 2000 and became a co-director of the London Waldorf Seminar in 2010.
Study, Child Development and Curriculum Practice Brian Jacques Brian Jacques is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and trained as a Waldorf teacher at Emerson College in Sussex. He has been a Class Teacher since 1996 and co-founded The St Michael Steiner School in Hounslow, London, where he works as a High School English teacher. He has been involved in teacher training since 2000.
Singing Anne AyreSince her retirement from the established Rudolf Steiner School Kings Langley, Anne Ayre has maintained her involvement with the LWTTS and LONDON COLLEGE of EURYTHMY courses, both held at Rudolf Steiner House. She is also a regular contributor to the artistic programme of the annual English Conference for Waldorf Teachers of English as a foreign language, in Altenberg, Germany.
EurythmyThea KaesbachThea Kaesbach has taught Eurythmy for many years to all ages. As well as being the seminar's Eurythmy teacher, she leads courses at Emerson College in Sussex.
Recorder playingChristine Fynes-Clinton Christine Fynes-Clinton was born in Zürich, Switzerland and educated at the Steiner School there. She took up the study of music, specialising in recorders. This led to teaching as well as playing in concerts and for recordings. Since moving to England Christine brought up her 4 children and teaches music at Michael Hall school.
